Frequently Asked Questions
Are you saying that it’s OK to be fat?
Yes. It’s Ok to be fat, skinny, tall, short, big boned, or small boned. There are many and complicated reasons why someone may overweight – physiological, hereditary, emotional, historical, etc. We believe that everyone should love themselves exactly as is – and deserves to be loved by others just as is.
It’s also a good thing to take action to improve one’s health when possible or necessary. But it has to start with a place of self-acceptance and love.
Are you saying that one can can choose to be gay or not to be gay?
No. One can no more choose to be gay than one can choose the color of one’s skin. Although there are those who believe the contrary – usually for religious and not scientific reasons – it’s simply not true.
Are you saying that people should stay together in marriage no matter what?
No. There are many good reasons to end marriages, and one of the two coming out can certainly be one of them.
But a marriage need not necessarily end when one member of a seemingly heterosexual couple comes out as gay. Humans marry humans. And if a marriage is working on many levels, there may be good reasons to keep that marriage alive and thriving.
Being honest with one another regarding each other’s needs, defining what a good life and a good marriage looks like, being honest and open with each other – these are things that help marriages thrive. This is of course, an important part of our story.
